Summer Fun

This entry began as a Summer Fun Photo entry, but after I wrote it, set the photo in, and THEN read the rules, I decided I'd just better leave it as a post.  It's not my best by far, but it sure tugs at my heart strings.

We had a very adventurous summer.  I suppose the highlight of the summer was during Swim Team.

My middle granddaughter, Kaymie, began her very first year on swim team at the age of 6.  She began her 8-week adventure learning her strokes, trying to make it from one end of the pool, to the other end, 25 yards across to the other side.  In the beginning, she dog-paddled a few times, then grabbed the rope to catch her breath while attempting her freestyle.  Later she learned backstroke, where she excelled!  By the end of the 8 weeks she stunned us by attempting and executing an adorable butterfly stroke, a stroke she taught herself by watching the older swimmers.

She won several ribbons and a medal for her backstroke.  But what cinched the summer was watching my very petite, fragile-framed Kaymie walk up to accept her trophy for "Most Valuable Swimmer" for her age division.  I still get teary-eyed at remembering the pride in those big, beautiful blue eyes.

The photo below shows her busting at the seams, showing off her participation trophy (right), donning the medal she won for her Divisionals meet, and holding her very large, and somewhat heavy, MVP trophy (left)!

Today... Cutten Green Current Swim Team; Tomorrow...Olympics!
